So, there I was browsing about the comments section of a Brazilian car site aimed at enthusiasts, not at all unlike Jalopnik, and people were discussing the perfect first car for a Gearhead, with suggestions ranging from brand new Camaros, to vintage 60's Mustangs to Honda NSXs, to V10 BMW M5s which they think is "probably cheap by now". I mean, sure why not, most people haven't even seen a Honda NSX in the flesh, it's the perfect first car! I mean, it's not like I don't understand where they're coming from, teenagers owning bonkers cars as their firsts aren't unheard of in the US and Europe and in movies, which often take this to the extreme, but not that bonkers or even that often. Seriously, some people just need a reality check...
Edit: Figured I'd post the entire list, just for shits and giggles.

Probably young kids commenting. When I was 11 or 12 I was convinced I'd be able to get an r34 skyline GTR after passing my test. I soon learned that's not how it works and life isn't a fast and furious movie.

Yeah, same here... like I said, I kind of understand where they're coming from. Back when I was in my teens, I just knew I was gonna figure out all the red tape and import a classic muscle car as my first car. Tht obviously never happened...

A First gen VW Gol with a Second gen Golf GTi 16v engine would be a blast though, and somewhat possible in Brazil?

You got lucky. This is what I wanted as a kid. The guy managing the arcade where the Sega Rally game was at shut me down hardcore. "1) No, you won't grow up to be a millionare (and he was right, I didn't) and 2) Even if you do, that variant of the car won't be for sale in the U.S., so not even a billion will allow you to get it."
Still hate that guy. Fuck'em.

I know someone who still hasn't grasped the sense of reality just yet. Thankfully I don't hang out with him. He wants a brand new Camaro SS as soon as he gets a license.
He's still jelly of my $500 rusty shitbox though.

Exactly, that's a far more realistic first car, to the point where I actually knew a guy who had one. He had a dark blue first gen Gol, with the turbocharged 2.0 DOHC that came in the Golf putting out about 300 hp and decked out in 1.0 badges. A sleeper at its finest. It's not just because this is Brazil though, some of those suggestions are absurd no matter where you live. These people seem to be under the impression that the Mercedes SLR, for example, is a dime a dozen on any old junkyard O_O

Ahahahah. I saw that! And I managed somehow to read the whole answer that guy gave. The last cars on his list: BMW M4 and Hennessey Venom GT.
Pretty funny, dude.

Yeah I think all kids have unrealistic fantasies of what car they'll own. It's hard to know any better when you have no real concept of money and no idea what insurance, taxes and fuel costs are.

We've got people like this all over the world, I just thought I'd suggest something that'd work in Brazil :) My Favorite VW was made in Brazil, the SP2 :)

Hahaha, I was sure you'd have seen it as well. Really, that guy must be high, it's the only explanation :p

When I'd mention my unrealistic car wants as a kid most people would just nod and smile. Eventually I worked out on my own what it's really like.
Dudes who shoot down young kids dreams suck.

Bitch, please:
Yeah, I know. But at least this dream got me on track of being an engineer since I was 8.

The SP2 is one of my favorites as well. There was a guy in the town next to my hometown that had 3, among other national classics. But hey, he probably bought the three as his first car hahahah....

There was a new E36 M3 at my high school. That was the highest string we had. The girl who had it totalled it rear ending my 500 dollar 80s Suburban.
The private school near my house had all sorts of crazy shitty at it. New S classes, jags, a white 3000GT spyder VR4 (like one of <50 ever made), etc., but those kids may as well have lived on a different planet.

:P Can you imagine an SP2 with a GT3 engine and drivetrain... Now THAT would be a blast :)

Ahahah. To be honest I only had courage to check the comments days after it was posted because I knew it'd be full of crap. I assume you did the same, apparently.
He was either:
1) High
2) He's 12 and plays a lot of Forza/GT/NFS
3) Didn't really get the question (Did he think it was something like "What would be the first car of your dreams"?)
I like the idea of a Brazilian equivalent of Jalopnik (that was the original idea until recently), but the comment section is almost as bad as 'Noticias Automotivas'. They simply can't post anything about ANY car without the commenters freaking out on which car is best and which one sucks. And someone ALWAYS mentions either the Camaro or the Veloster. No matter the subject.

Exactly, those cars are already expensive and not at all first car material in the US and Europe, nevermind here!

LOL.
I kinda know that feel, though - before I was 16, I didn't really have a realistic set of expectations as to what I'd get, or if I wouldn't already be stuck driving something we already owned. One car I fantasized about in middle school was an Evo X (man, that thing is old), while I wanted a used pre-'08 WRX or Lexus IS300/SC300 as a high school freshman.
I ended up driving my dad's 2005 Toyota Matrix around the start of 2012 - I thought it was a great starter car, although the 4-speed auto wasn't a stickshift. It was honestly one of the better cars in my HS parking lot by virtue of being one of the newest of the older cars there and having power windows and mirrors, which a few of the new base-model compacts lacked.
